Dengue fever outbreaks in Brazil (update)

Ceará State

Health authorities have no declared dengue fever epidemics in 35 municipalities. A total of 39 deaths and 17,065 confirmed cases have been registered.

São Caetano, São Paulo State

Since the beginning of 2011, 43 dengue cases have been reported while 19 of these have been confirmed by laboratory testing.

Alto Floresta, Mato Grosso State

The number of suspected cases of dengue has reached 173. There is a high density of mosquitoes in different parts of the city, and more cases may occur.

Rio de Janeiro State

The State continues to record increases in dengue fever cases and deaths (66 so far in 2011). The number of people diagnosed and reported with suspected dengue fever has reached 677 per day. The State has recorded a total of 85,425 cases, and 18 municipalities are listed as having epidemic status.

Travellers should be aware of the risk of exposure to dengue and take all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
