Dengue fever cases, deaths and outbreaks have been reported from the following countries:

Mexico (Hidalgo State; Tamaulipas State)
El Salvador
Ecuador
Brazil (Natal, Rio Grande do Norte State; Rio de Janeiro City and State)
Paraguay (Alto Parana Department)
Malaysia (Klang, Selangor Province)
India (Srivilliputhur, Tamil Nadu State)
Pakistan (Karachi, Sibndh Province)
Reunion Island

Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever may not seek medical care and may not be reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community that are not reported.
