Dengue fever outbreaks in various areas of Brazil

Dengue fever cases and outbreaks are being reported from the following areas in Brazil:

• Minas Gerais - Belo Horizonte (256 cases in past week)

• Paraná - Guaíra (epidemic level) and Londrina (major control efforts underway)

• S** ão Paulo** - Osasco (greater São Paulo City) number of cases is 10 times the number last year Many cases of dengue fever are not reported. Counting and reporting cases may be difficult due to lack of local access to health care. Many persons with mild illness do not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
