Dengue fever report from Central America

Guatemala - there have been 6,846 reported cases along with 12 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever nationwide.
Honduras - there have been 3,485 cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever along with 25 deaths nationwide in addition to thousands of cases of ordinary dengue fever. Nearly all municipalities have reported cases (293 out of 298 total).
Nicaragua - there have been 3,500 reported cases along with 7 deaths.

There may be many more unreported cases of dengue since counting and reporting cases may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
