Dengue fever reported in Texas, USA

The Department of Health has reported 17 cases of dengue fever, 13 of whom are from Cameron County on the border with Mexico. Several of the cases appear to have been infected by local mosquitoes. There may be more cases of dengue that are not reported. Counting and reporting cases may be difficult because persons with mild illness do not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
