Dengue fever reported near Lima, Peru

Health authorities have reported some cases of dengue fever in Comas, north of Lima. The limited number of cases may indicate the beginning of an outbreak.

Advice For Travellers

While the risk of exposure to dengue virus in this area may be low at this time, the risk may increase quickly as the virus spreads in the local mosquitoes. All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
