Dengue fever reports from Mexico (update)

Overall, there have been 27,738 reported cases of dengue fever, along with 8,245 cases of the more serious dengue haemorrhagic fever. The most affected states include Tabasco, Veracruz, Morelos and Chiapas. Other states that have reported cases include Baja California Sur (Los Cabos), Oaxaca (Oaxaca City) and Yucatan. There may be many unreported cases of dengue since counting and reporting cases may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
