Dengue fever reports from Pakistan (update)

Two areas of Pakistan have been reporting increasing numbers of dengue fever cases and deaths. In Sindh Province, where Karachi has been most affected, there have been 1,634 reported cases. In the Swat district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, there have been at least 6,667 reported cases along with 23 deaths. There may be many more unreported cases of dengue since counting and reporting cases may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
