Dengue fever season in the Philippines (summary)

So far this year, there have been 45,037 cases of dengue fever reported nationwide from Jan. 1 to June 15. A total of 204 deaths were also reported. Most of the cases occurred in Central Visayas, Western Visayas, Calabarzon, Davao Region, Soccsksargen and Metro Manila. There may be many more unreported cases since counting and reporting may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
