Dengue fever starting to increase in Mexico and El Salvador

In Mexico , the states of Chiapas and Jalisco have started to report new cases of dengue fever. In Jalisco, the most affected municipalities include Cihuatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Casimiro Castillo, Tlaquepaque, Tonaya, and Tomatlan.

In El Salvador , the national total so far has reached 1,443 reported cases, with 1 death.

Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
