Dengue fever surges in central Vietnamese provinces

Reported cases of dengue fever have increased in central Vietnamese provinces, specifically in Phu Yen and Binh Dinh where 1,140 and 1,300 cases were recorded, respectively. Officials have noted that the number of cases is many times more than during the same period last year. There may be many more unreported cases since counting and reporting cases may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
