Dengue fever surges in Negros Occidental, Philippines

Compared to last year, there has been a major increase in reported cases of dengue fever in Negros Occidental. So far, there have been 2,511 cases along with 14 deaths. The most affected municipalities include Talisay City, Victorias, Silay, Bago, Kabankalan, San Carlos, Himamaylan, Isabela, Binalbagan and La Carlota.

There may be many more unreported cases since counting and reporting may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
