Dengue fever thereat continues in state of Goiás, Brazil

A two year old child is the first person to die from dengue fever in the state in the new year. During 2015, the city of Goiânia reported a total of 79,499 cases of dengue fever with 32 deaths. At the state level, there were almost 187,500 infected people with possibly 126 deaths.

Advice For Travellers

The risk of exposure to dengue fever continues across the state of Goiás, but it will vary from place to place. All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
