Dengue Fever update - Paraguay, Peru, Brazil, Australia

Paraguay:

An outbreak of Dengue fever have been identified just north of the capital of Asunción in the town of Mariano Roque Alonso (17 cases). Another epidemic with 3 reported deaths and 30 confirmed cases is suspected in the Department of Alto Paraná, 340 kilometers east of the capital, along with suspicion of outbreaks in 14 other locations.

Peru (Amazonas):

The ongoing epidemic of Dengue Fever in the Peruvian Amazon forest has claimed the lives of 10 people.

Brazil (Mato Grosso do Sul):

Officials in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul have reported the first suspected case of Dengue fever in a patient from the city of Campo Grande.

Australia (North Queensland): Officials have declared a new outbreak of Dengue fever in the Queensland town of Innisfail. At least one locally acquired case has been confirmed.

Travelers to these areas should be aware that there is a risk of exposure and infection with the Dengue fever virus as a result of mosquito bites.
