Dengue increasing in many areas of Vietnam

Since the beginning of this year, there have been more than 12,000 cases of dengue fever in Viet Nam. Southern provinces, such as Bien Hoa, Dong Nai, and Binh Duong have been the most affected. In Ho Chi Minh City, among the 5,000 reported cases of dengue, there have been 519 people hospitalized in just the past month, presumably because of the severe form of the disease, dengue haemorrhagic fever.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
