Dengue is increasing in Myanmar

With 9,893 reported cases of dengue fever and 43 deaths, the increasing trend may reach the epidemic levels of 2013. Health authorities have warned that they expect many more cases as the wet season continues and mosquitoes proliferate. Most of the cases are concentrated in the Ayeyarwady, Yangon and Mon areas.

Advice For Travellers

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
