Diphtheria problem continues in various states of Venezuela

Another young child from the municipality of Pariaguan in Anzoategui has died from diphtheria. More than 200 cases have occurred in the states of Bolivar, Monagas, Sucre, Miranda, and Anzoategui.

There are reports of shortages of vaccine to control the spread of this disease and of anti-toxin and antibiotics to treat it. Travellers to the affected states should ensure that their childhood vaccinations are up-to-date.
