Doctors in Hamilton, New Zealand, warned to look out for hand, foot and mouth disease

Dozens of children have been treated at Auckland's Starship Hospital for dehydration caused by hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) that is affecting both children and adults in an outbreak in Hamilton. The current strain of the virus that is circulating affects adults more easily than other strains. Travellers who are travelling with small children who are most susceptible to infection with this virus can decrease the risk of exposure to hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) virus by frequent hand washing and maintaining careful personal hygiene.

Visit our Health Library for more information on exposure to and the prevention of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease.
