Dozens killed in open conflict between security forces and Boko Haram sect in northeast Nigeria

For several days, open armed conflict between security forces and suspected members of Boko Haram has resulted in dozens of deaths in northeast Nigeria. The violence began in Borno and Yobe States in Nigeria. At least 50 people have died in Damaturu and Potiskum in Yobe State.

Travellers to this region should exercise extreme caution and avoid all public and political demonstrations as well as locations where public gatherings occur.
