Dramatic change in dengue fever in Rosario, Argentina

After registering only sporadic cases of dengue fever in 2014 and 2015, the municipality of Rosario has recorded a 1,400 percent increase in reported cases of dengue this year (more than 1,500 cases). The increases in this city reflect the overall epidemic levels of dengue in multiple provinces nationwide (including the provinces of Santa Fe, Misiones, Formosa and Buenos Aires).

All travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Many persons with dengue fever do not seek medical care and are not reported to health authorities. There may be many more cases in the community than the reports indicate.
