Drarmatic increase in measles in Mongolia

Mongolia was declared free from measles after no cases were detected from 2012 through 2014. Last year there were outbreaks with up to 1,600 infected children. So far this year, there has been a dramatic increase with at least 19,000 children infected and 53 infant deaths.

Advice For Travellers

Travellers are reminded that outbreaks of the highly contagious measles virus can occur anywhere in the world at any time. Travellers who have not been immunized may be at high risk. Travellers can reduce their risk of exposure to the highly contagious measles virus by ensuring that their childhood vaccinations, including measles, are up-to-date prior to travelling.
