Earthquake hits off coast of Fukushima, Japan, and tsunami warning issued

The Japan Meteorological Agency reports a preliminary magnitude 7.3 earthquake off the coast of Fukushima in northeast Japan at 6:01 am local time. A tsunami warning has been issued for Fukushima Prefecture. Tsunami advisories have also been issued for the Pacific coast of Aomori Prefecture, Iwate Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture, Ibaraki Prefecture and the Kujukuri and Sotobo area of Chiba Prefecture.

Authorities issued the following: “Evacuate immediately from coastal regions and riverside areas to a safer place such as high ground or an evacuation building.”
