Ebola death in hospital in Kampala linked to outbreak in Kibaale (update)

Two cases of Ebola, one of whom has died, were reported in Kampala's Mulago Hospital. It is not clear what links they may have with the outbreak in Kibaale. Hospital staff who treated the highly infectious patients have been placed in quarantine. Meanwhile, 6 more suspected cases were hospitalised in Kibaale. If these cases are confirmed to be Ebola, the total number reported in this outbreak in this month will be 26.

Any travellers in this area should avoid any direct contact with anyone suspected to have this infection since it is highly contagious and lethal. Transmission often occurs during burial rituals for deceased patients, close physical contact with infected persons, during sexual contact or within hospitals through contact with blood and body fluids of infected persons.
