Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of the Congo is not over

One more persons has died from Ebola infection bringing the total number of deaths to 14. There have been 29 confirmed or probable cases. While most of the cases have occurred in Isiro in Orientale Province, one of the cases has occurred in the settlement of Viadana, 75 km away, suggesting that the outbreak may be spreading.

While the risk to an individual traveller is low, any travellers in this area should avoid any direct contact with anyone suspected to have this infection since it is highly contagious and lethal. Transmission often occurs during burial rituals for deceased patients, close physical contact with infected persons and their body fluids, during sexual contact or within hospitals through contact with blood and body fluids of infected persons.
