Ebola problem in West Africa will not be over soon

The World Health Organization has estimated that the extent of illness and death in the Ebola affected West African countries is greater than the official data indicate since an unknown number of infected persons may die at home without seeking medical care. Officially, there have been 1,145 reported deaths due to this infection. The medical response organization Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), that is providing a large share of medical treatment for Ebola patients, has estimated that it will take an additional 6 months to bring the outbreak under control.

Nevertheless, the risk for the general traveller remains very low, unless the traveller is a healthcare worker or volunteer providing care for Ebola patients or is in close personal contact with a sick or dying Ebola patient.
