Economic protests in Tunisia

On the 6th anniversary of the revolution that ended the autocratic rule of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, there were demonstrations in several cities to mark the on-going high unemployment rate and economic depression. The protests occurred in Sidi Bouzid, Gafsa and Meknassi, where a presidential convoy was stoned. There are no reports of injuries or deaths.

Advice For Travellers

Due to continued political and social tension in Tunisia, travellers should always exercise caution and avoid all public and political demonstrations since they may become violent without warning.
