More Alcohol Poisoning in Thailand

Two more people have died after consuming illegal alcohol contaminated with methanol. The total number of deaths is now 6 with 22 additional cases currently hospitalized. The patients had purchased illegal alcohol at street liquor stalls. The liquor may have been purchased in Lat
Krabang and Khannayao districts of Bangkok and in Lam Luk Ka district
of Pathum Thani.

Advice

The consumption of clandestine alcohol is a high risk due to its frequent contamination with methanol during illegal distillation. Methanol is highly toxic.  Substantial methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death.

Travellers should only consume alcoholic beverages produced by known commercial companies.
