Egypt fights militant insurgency

The Egyptian army continues its operation to fight militant insurgency in the North Sinai Governate. The army reports that over the past year, hundreds of jihadists have been killed or arrested. Civilians have also been caught in the violence. In October, Egypt declared a three-month state of emergency and a curfew from 5 pm to 7 am.

On Saturday, a bomb exploded near a train station in the town of Al-Wasta south of Cairo. Three unexploded devices had been planted on railway tracks that link Cairo to the city of Aswan. One person was killed and was believed to be the person who planted the bombs.
