Advice For Travellers

Political tensions are high and violence may escalate ahead of a parliamentary election that is to take place on June 29 and a presidential poll on July 15. Since protests began in April of this year, at least 70 people have been killed, 500 wounded, and more than 100,000 people have fled the country.

Many countries have advised citizens to avoid all travel to Burundi at this time and until the political violence connected to the coming elections has subsided.
