Enterovirus 71 encephalitis cases increase in Taiwan

Six new cases of encephalitis (brain inflammation) due to enterovirus 71 (EV71), all in children less than 10 years old, have been reported in northern Taiwan. The total so far this year is now 127 cases with 2 deaths.

Travellers can reduce the risk of exposure to this virus by practicing careful personal hygiene and following food and water precautions.
