Ernesto is now a tropical storm moving into the Gulf of Mexico

Ernesto reached land as a category 1 hurricane but has since been downgraded to a tropical storm as it moves into the Bay of Campeche. It passed south of major tourist areas in Yucatan. Wind and heavy rainfall in Chetemal and surrounding areas caused some damage and resulted in 1 known death. Very heavy rainfall is expected in Tabasco, Veracruz, Puebla and northern Oaxaca through Friday.

Travellers in this area of the Gulf of Mexico should monitor local weather reports and seek shelter when necessary.
