Escalating ethnic conflict in Myanmar

In spite of some political reforms, conflicts involving minority groups have escalated in Myanmar's Muslim communities, especially in Rohingya in the northwest. There are more than 300,000 internal displaced people and almost half a million refugees originating from conflict areas in Myanmar in northern Kachin State (armed conflict between Myanmar's army and the Kachin Independent Army) and in Shan State (armed conflict with the rebel Talang National Liberation Army).
