Expanding outbreak of measles in Auckland, New Zealand

The worsening outbreak of measles in Auckland began when an unimmunized child returned from the UK infected with the virus. A second infected traveller who arrived from Thailand compounded the problem. Now there are 50 reported cases scattered across the city. Although there have been no deaths reported, at least 4 persons have been hospitalized. The number of cases is expected to increase since this highly infectious virus encounters people who have not been vaccinated.

Travellers to this city should be aware of the risk of exposure to this highly infectious virus and ensure that their childhood vaccinations are up-to-date.
