Expired and counterfeit antimalarial medication in West Darfur, Sudan

Travellers should be aware that expired or counterfeit antimalarial medication is being sold in West Darfur. These medications are usually ineffective. Untreated malaria may end in death.

Since expired medicine from industrialized countries may end up in developing countries, travellers should purchase drugs only from reputable establishments and check expiry dates carefully. The lack of control of imported drugs and lack of resources to enforce national legislation is often a problem.
