Explosions across Baghdad on Sunday kill at least 40 people

At least 40 people were killed and over 80 wounded in explosions across Baghdad on Sunday evening. Explosions occurred in mainly Shia neighbourhoods, including the Aden checkpoint in the Khazimiyah district, Shaab neighbourhood, Banook district, al-Askan district, and the al-Amal neighbourhood.

Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group often targets Shia neighbourhoods. According to the United Nations, at least 15,000 civilians have been killed and at least 44,136 wounded since the beginning of 2014.
