Fake malaria drugs in Camerron and Democratic Republic of the Congo

Travellers should be aware that two anti-malaria drugs currently available in these countries that supposedly contain quinine sulphate used to treat severe forms of malaria (called P.falciparum) are fake and contain no active ingredients. The drugs are;

  • Quinine Sulfate 300 mg, produced by Novadina Pharmaceutical Ltd, London, United Kingdom; and
  • Quinine Sulphate 300mg, produced by CAD Pharm, India

Advice For Travellers

P.falciparum malaria is the most severe and potentially fatal type of malaria. Early, appropriate treatment with the right anti-malaria medication is essential. Travellers who are in possession of these fake products should discard them. Ensure that all medical products are obtained from authentic and reliable sources.
