Fake rabies vaccine found in Philippines

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Novartis Healthcare (Philippines) have identified an illegally imported and unregistered rabies vaccine (Purified Chick Embryo Cell with trade name Rabipur Rabies Vaccine) that is being offered for sale in vaccination clinics, drug establishments and other outlets. The illegal sample was identified in Tabuk City in Kalinga. All drug establishments and outlets have been warned against importing, distributing, and selling this unregistered drug product.

Rabies vaccine is a life saving treatment for persons who have been exposed to the virus. Rabies virus may be found throughout the Philippines, and any traveller who has been bitten by any dog, cat, bat, monkey, etc., is at high risk for rabies.
