Fear of violence after call for protests in Egypt for Friday, November 28

An ultraconservative Islamist political organization, the Salafi Front, has called for protests across Egypt on Friday, 28 November, after dawn prayers. Islamists are divided over this protest and some groups have stated they will not participate. Egyptian authorities are concerned that the protest will be a cover for attacks and bombing and have stated that deadly force will be used against any attack on public facilities.

Travellers in Egypt should be aware that attacks usually occur around government buildings, universities, and transportation sites, such as metro stations, trains, etc. Attacks are usually directed at police but innocent bystanders have been hurt or killed.
