First case of malaria since 2009 found in St. Ann, Jamaica

Health authorities have reported a single case of malaria in St. Ann, Jamaica. This is the first case on the island since 2009. Authorities are investigating to determine if there are any more cases in the area. Travellers to this area can reduce their risk of exposure to malaria by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Avoiding mosquito bites will also reduce the risk of exposure to dengue fever, a much more common illness.
