First case of West Nile Fever reported in Madison County, Mississippi, USA

The Mississippi State Department of Health has reported the state's first human case of West Nile virus infection this year in Madison County. Last season in 2012, Mississippi had 247 cases and 5 deaths. Travellers to the USA and southern Canada should be aware that the spring and summer season is the time for West Nile virus transmission. Since there is no vaccine or treatment for infections withWest Nile fever virus, travellers to areas where the West Nile Fever virus hasbeen found can reduce their risk of exposure to this virus by taking allnecessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
