First cases of Eastern Equine encephalitis (EEE) reported in Vermong

The 1st 2 cases of eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus infection have been confirmed by the Vermont Health Department. Both are patients are from Addison and Rutland Counties. Both have been hospitalized. Like West Nile virus, EEE virus is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. Travellers to these areas can reduce their risk of exposure to EEE virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
