First malaria cases in Brión, Miranda, Venezuela, in past 25 years

For the first time in 25 years, malaria (4 cases) have been reported from the municipality of Brión. Travellers to any region where malaria transmission is occurring can reduce their risk of exposure by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites. The overall risk of exposure to malaria in this area is probably low, and anti-malaria medication is generally not recommended.
