Flooding, evacuations and road closures in Costa Rica

Costa Rica has received heavy rains which have led to flooding, evacuations and road closures. Route 32 was closed again as of 17:00 (5 pm) Tuesday as a precaution. Route 32 runs between the Limón Province and Central Valley. Route 415 in Turrialba is closed due to high water levels on the Guayabo River

Advice

On Tuesday evening, the National Emergency Commission raised the Yellow Alert to Red (maximum alert) for the Limón Province; the canton of Sarapiquí in northern Heredia Province; and for Turrialba in Cartago Province. Officials expect more landslides and road closures throughout the rainy season, which runs until November.
