Flu (influenza) activity, global summary

Flu (influenza) activity has started to increase in many European countries as the winter season approaches. However, in North America , activity still remains at low levels. In most regions of tropical Asia , influenza activity was at a low level, with the exception of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China. In the Caribbean region of Central America and tropical South American countries , cases of influenza decreased. Influenza activity has peaked in the South American temperate countries and in South Africa in late June 2013. In Australia and New Zealand , flu activity appears to have peaked.

Travellers who are planning trips in the northern hemisphere during the fall-winter season may wish to consider obtaining a flu vaccination prior to travel to reduce the risk of acquiring the flu during their trip.
