Food-borne Intoxication - Hoang Hoa District, Than Hoa Province, Vietnam

Health authorities in the Hoang Hoa District, have reported an outbreak of food-borne intoxication with approximetly 1,000 cases among workers in a shoe factory after consuming a prepared lunch. Nearly all the cases required hospital treatment at nearby hospitals. General symptoms included headache, dizziness, fainting and vomiting. The food prepared for the lunch included rice, chicken, vegetables and vegetable liquid.
While this outbreak does not create a risk of exposure for the general traveller, the ingredients used in the lunch may also have been used for food prepared and consumed outside the factory.
Travellers should be aware of the possible risk of food-borne intoxication in this area.
