Four Palestinians kidnapped in Egypt

Four Palestinians were kidnapped from a bus late at night on Wednesday in the Sinai Peninsula. The bus was travelling from Rafah on the Egypt-Gaza border to Cairo airport.

Also in late July, an ISIL group in Egypt kidnapped and later killed a Croatian citizen who was in Egypt working for a French company. He was on his way to work in the Cairo area when his car was stopped and he was taken.

Advice

Many countries advise against all travel to the Governorate of North Sinai due to lack of personal safety and ongoing attacks against police and security forces and their installations. Most countries also advise against all but necessary travel to the Governorate of South Sinai.

Many travellers visit Egypt with no safety or security problems. However, with respect to personal safety, always be vigilant and aware of what is going on in your surroundings. Avoid large crowds and avoid buildings that are police, government or security installations.
