Four people die from dengue fever in Honduras

So far this year, there have been 4 deaths due to dengue fever in Honduras. The latest was an 8 year old child. Across the country there have been 7,448 reported cases, of whom 1,145 have had the serious form of the disease, dengue haemorrhagic fever. There may be many more unreported cases since counting and reporting may be hampered by lack of local access to health care, and many persons with mild illness may not seek health care. Travellers to areas where the dengue fever virus is active can reduce their risk of exposure to dengue fever virus by taking all necessary precautions to avoid mosquito bites.
