Four sisters splashed with acid in Uttar Pradesh, India

Four sisters, three of whom are teachers and the other is a student in a local government school, were burned when they were splashed with acid by men on a passing motorcycle. It appears that acid has become the cheapest and most effective tool for men to attack women in India, according to one commentator. The attack occurred in the Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh.

Travellers, especially women travelling alone or in small groups, should exercise caution since male aggression against women is not uncommon.
