Government physicians on strike in Ghana

Government physicians in Ghana have been on strike since July 30 this year and have extended the strike to emergency wards. Many outpatient medical facilities for accidents and emergencies are no longer accepting patients.

The government has plans to bring 170 doctors from Cuba to help mitigate the health-care crisis, however, there is no date set at this time for their arrival.

Advice For Travellers

Travellers should have travel insurance and the funds to pay for medical care and medical repatriation if necessary.

This strike does not affect private health facilities. Private health facilities are operating and are still accepting patients.

Travellers should be aware that medical facilities outside larger towns are poor and emergency facilities are very limited.
