Greater than usual number of cases of norovirus infection in England

Thousands of cases of norovirus infection are being reported in England with an increasing number of reports each day. Several hospitals have been affected and forced to shut entire wards when patients with norovirus spread the infection to hospital staff and other patients. While the general risk of infection for travellers is low, travellers should be aware that this group of viruses may persist on inanimate objects such as banisters, door knobs and other surfaces touched by ill persons. In spite of the low risk, travellers should still ensure a high level of personal hygiene with frequent hand washing to reduce the risk of infection.
